Amsterdam small bike, bicycle ferry on the River Amstel, just within the city limits.
Passenger & Bicycle Ferry NH 36 aka Pontje de Smient (Little Ferry the Widgeon) across the River Amstel on the south side of Amsterdam. It ferries mainly cyclists between the busy and the calm side of the river. And it provides a cycle link between the Buitenveldert and the Zuid Oost and Watergraafsmeer districts. Schedule: April and September weekends 12-18; May-Aug daily 12-18. NH 36: Pontje (little ferry) Amsteldijk/Kalfjeslaan – Ouderkerkerdijk. This ferry is opposite of the Riekermolen windmill and the sculpture of Rembrandt with his sketchbook. (See image F0198B). Amsterdam has many ferries within it's city limits. Not just the well known big IJ Harbor ferries from the Central Station side to the Amsterdam North district, but also a a lot of smaller ones, which mostly only operate during the summer months. The river ferries are the smallest that are run by a ferryman. Even smaller boats or pontoons are operated by the passengers themselves. An identical ferry to NH 36 is operated by the city some further up the river that makes for a nice loop. It is however outside the Amsterdam city limits.
