She faces thespectator, looking down upon the nearly naked infantseated on her knee, who holds aloft an inscribed tablet andlooks up toward it. Over his head the Madonna-like figureholds a protecting hand, in her other hand lightly claspinga lotus-flower seed-pod on its long scrolling stem whichgives the semblance of a scepter. Her hair is elaboratelydressed in braids and is uncovered. Her bare breast dis-plays a jeweled necklace and she wears bracelets and arm-lets. Height, 1114 98—FuCHiEX Figure of ax Emperor {Ming) White Fuchien ware, coated with a brilliant glaze of ivory-white. The august personage is represented sitting, on arock throne, his head turned slightly to his left. He wearsflowing robes and a girdle, and a formal headdress. Hisright hand rests upon his knee, and his left elbow upon astand whose legs have grotesque heads at the top and birds-claw feet, and in his left liand is a scroll. Height, 10 inches.
