Apollo 11 mission patch. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Mike Collins, and Buzz Aldrin were the crew of the historic Apollo 11 mission, achieving the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. The mission patch was designed by the crew, with an eagle to represent the USA as its national bird (the Lunar Module was also named 'Eagle'). The olive branch in the eagle's talons was included to symbolise peace. The Earth is also shown in the sky, above the cratered lunar surface. Image published in June 1969.
