ALL-STEEL SUBURBAN CARS. Long Island Railroad. The Long Island Railroad is putting into service the order offifty all-steel suburban cars, which it recently received fromthe American Car and Foundry Company. These cars representthe latest development in equipment of this class and are excel-lent in every particular. While they were designed for and caneasily be adapted to electric service, they are for the present tobe used in steam service and are being operated out of the LongIsland City terminal. As can be seen by the illustrations, they are of the standarddesign for all-steel passenger equipment adopted about a yearand a half ago by the Pennsylvania Railroad, which was de-scribed and illustrated in the June and July, 1907, numbers of thisjournal. Reference can be made to those issues for drawingsand photographs of all details. The theory on which the de- signs were based has been fully treated in the series of articlesmi Steel Passeng
