F16 Fighting Falcon climbing almost vertically away
Falcon F16 single seater version climbing away trailing white marker smoke at the Farnborough Airshow 2006 . Flying left to right diagonally against a cloudy sky . Manufactured by Lockheed Martin the F16 is a smaller and more manoeuvrable version with more emphasis on dog fighting within a few miles range . It was one of the first if not the first military aircraft with fly by wire design and incorporating an unstable aerodynamic balance . This means the aircraft is not conventional in balance where the plane is nose heavy but more tail heavy allowing smaller wings making it more effficient being lighter and giving a fast turn capability . Able to withstand 9G turns and carry sidewinder missiles supplemented by its gun it is a formidable weapon and has been developed to carry AMRAAM radar guided missile with chaff and flare dispensers for its defence . There are several models to carry different armament and one and two seater variants too some carrying night vision ground attack and improved radar. Specifications for the F16 C single seater and D two seater are one Pratt and Whitney F100 PW 200 220 229 or one General Electric F110 GE 100 129 Power Plant with thrust F16C and D of 27000 pounds or 12150 kilograms .
