Alexander G. Bell with his future wife. Artwork of Scottish-US inventor and telephone pioneer Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) with his future wife Mabel Gardiner Hubbard (1857-1923) and a telephone (lower centre). Mabel, who became deaf from the age of five, was one of Bell's private pupils when he was a teacher of the deaf and professor of Vocal Physiology and Elocution in Boston, USA. They married in 1877, a few days after Bell's acceptance by Mabel's family was assured with the establishment of the Bell Telephone Company. They went on to raise a family of two daughters.
