The street remains the last refuge of the unemployed, like these dust mop car cleaners in Mexico City.

The street remains the last refuge of the unemployed in Mexico City. Justino Trejo, 38, Luis Alberto Rodriguez, 23, and Omar Flores Torres, 19 work as car cleaners at the same traffic intersection everyday in the south-central part of the city. The daily trip from their homes in the con-urban area of Ecatepec, takes two hours each way. To earn a few pesos, they approach cars stopped at a traffic light and try to convince drivers to let them give their cars a quick cleaning with their long-handled dust mops.
