Besides the childrens service, the Hospital maintains a maternityservice. During the past year the public wards have cared for three 21 hundred and fifteen patients. The Department of Charities of the City-pays for emergency cases and the hospital maintains nine free beds forthe care of worthy women. These beds have been used by thirty womenduring the past year. There is also a waiting ward containing thirteenbeds to which women are admitted several months before delivery. The third floor has seven rooms, single and ensuite, for privatepatients. These rooms are in constant demand and during the past. A Boarding Out Child year this floor has cared for three hundred and twenty-three the new addition seven more rooms have been provided. There isalso a well equipped nursery in connection with this floor for the useof the babies of the private patients. In addition to the private rooms,there is maintained a semi-private ward where women are cared for ata very moderate charge during confinement. Another activity which has recently grown rapidly in importance isthe Out Door Obstetrical Department. This work has generally sup-planted the work of the old Marion Street Maternity Hospital Wards. 22 There are still maintained separate wards for the care of the respectablemarried woman, but very few patients of this class are received.
