VAN DE VELDE (William) (1633-1707) 52. — The Gun-shot On a foamy sea two hostile vessels are firing at each other, fireand smoke escaping in vast volumes. Other vessels are engaged inthe distance, their masts and sails perceptible through the the right, a red-coated mariner is clinging to the rigging of asinking ship. Two boats, crowded with men, are near by. The seais dark and rough in the fore-ground. The blue skyse en is throughthe smoke. Canvas, 22 3/4 in. by 29 in.
