Elephant in the enormous February parade in Colombo Sri Lanka


The Nuwam Maha Perahera February parade which has a hundred elephants and thousands of dancers is held in and around the Gangaramaya temple Colombo during the full moon poya period in February The elephants are walked or trucked into the capital from all over Sri Lanka and spend several days being groomed and enjoying the water facilities in Viharamahadevi Park before the three evenings of parades This photograph was taken near the Gangaramaya temple while the elephant was being led along a path of white material and followed by scores of monks temple boys and girls and dancers
