Alluding to René Magritte's oil painting of a pipe with the negative caption "Ceci n'est pas une pipe", the façade of the Brandenburg State Parliament reads "Ceci n'est pas un chateaux" in French, pointing to the unreliability of perception, just as Magritte did. Behind the baroque three-storey façade is a modern five-storey administration and parliament building. The Brandenburg state parliament is located behind the restored façade of the Potsdam City Palace. Artist Annette Paul has added the words "Ceci n'est pas un château" in gold letters as an ironic distancing from the first impression
