Although Margate has become characterised by economic decline in recent years, the old town near the harbour is developing into a flourishing artistic community with galleries, restaurants and coffee shops. This is expected to be boosted by the opening nearby of the Turner Contemporary Gallery in April 2011. Mullins Brasserie specialises in modern European and Caribbean food.
