In 1775 the Britishdragoons, who cared little for the sacred-ness of its walls, removed the pews andused the building as a riding school. Thechurch is now as a museum and con-tains a rare collection of relics pertaining tothe early history of New Kngland. Almostopposite on Milk Street is the site of thebirthplace of Benjamin Franklin; while onthe opposite corner of Washington Street isthe Old Corner Book Store, used assuch since 1712, and which presents asplendid specimen of the dwelling house ofthat time.
