Hair follicle mite research. Irish researcher Kevin Kavanagh holding a model of a Demodex hair follicle mite. Kavanagh's research has demonstrated a link between Demodex mites and the skin condition rosacea. The parasitic/commensal mite Demodex folliculorum has an elongated body. Its preferred habitat is human eyelashes and eyebrows. It feeds mainly on sebum and dead skin cells. When large numbers of D. folliculorum are found on humans, the infestation is known as demodicosis.
