He served in this capacity untilhe was selected and appointed by his bishopto establisli a much-needed and new congre-gation for the Geniians of Duluth. It wasno easy task, but by laboring almost by dayand night, he succeeded in sixty days inorganizing the St. Anthony of Padua par-ish, and in acquiring one of the now mostbeautiful church locations—since greatly im-proved—on the corner of Third avenue andSecond street east. On the 4th of March,1891, he was apjiointed pastor of the new,now a leading and prosperous, congregation,the position which he still successfully He is a regular member of the St. JosepliRenevolent Society, and for many years wasits president. He is also a member of the(icrman Roman Catholic Aid Assoq^ the convention held at Sleepy Eye, Minn.,in 18!)!), he was made vice president of theorganization. In politics he was a Democratuntil 1!>0(); since then he has inclined towardsthe Republican party. His tine scholarship,genial manners and close attention to hisonerous duties have placed him in high esti-mation in the whole community.
