The thirteenth priest to take charge of Clayton wasRev. Father Peret from Rosiere, who had just arrivedfrom France. He came here in July, 1873, ^^^ minister-ed to the spiritual wants of the catholics of Clayton onlyuntil Jan 1874. As he could not get along with thetrustees at Rosiere, he begged the Bishops permission tocome and live here. This request was refused ; and ashe was unwilling to live at Rosiere under such con-ditions, he left for New York, where he died a few yearsafter. Rev. Father Peret was small, had a fair complexion,and wore a wig; he was nervous and excitable, but still,was well liked by the Clayton people.
