The Guatemalan Corps of Engineers’ commander, Brig. Gen. Adolfo Mendez Moran, hosted the event to express his appreciation for SPMAGTF-SC’s support in responding to a series of volcanic eruptions by Fuego Volcano in La Esquintla, Guatemala. SPMAGTF-SC’s MARDET built homes for several families that were affected by the volcanic eruptions. The Marines and sailors of SPMAGTF-SC are conducting security cooperation training and engineering projects alongside partner nation military forces in Central and South America. The unit is also on standby to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the event of a hurricane or other emergency in the region.
