He learned telegraphy in Silver Lakeand worked as supply operator and agent invarious towns on what is now the Michigandivision of the Big Four railroad for abouta year. He then took an agency at Urbana,next at Silver Lake and then accepted theagency at Claypool, in which position he re-mained for twelve years. During all thistime he was especially favored with successand health, which allowed him to he on dutyconstantly, never losing a months pay. Hewas shipping agent also and in reward forhis faithful attention to all duties he washeld in high esteem by the officials. He re-signed this position to accept the office oftrustee of Clay township, having been easilyelected to that place on the Republican term of five years and three months ex-pired in Se
