One of the most-visited attractions of Saudi Arabia, the Old Dir'aiyah at Riyadh is a magnificent historical site. Located on the outskirts of northwestern Riyadh, the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia, the Old Dir'aiyah is a must-see for every tourist. An erstwhile ruler of the Al Saud clan built the Old Dir'aiyah in the year 1466. This fortress was the residence and stronghold of the ruling family of Saudi Arabia until the early 20th century. Finally, when King Abdulaziz decided to shift his headquarters to Riyadh, the Old Dir'aiyah was left completely neglected. In 1974, the ruling government decided to restore the Old Dir'aiyah, an important symbol of the history of Saudi Arabia. After restoration it has become a fascinating sight.
