By thattime the captain had recuperated to a limited extent and his rest-less spirit again asserted itself, and we next find him in the city ofPortsmouth, Ohio, engaged in a wholesale boot and shoe house,known as Hibbs, Richardson and Company. The firm did a pros-perous business and the captain formed business alliances andfriendships which he will carry to the end of life. After aboutten years the co-partnership was dissolved, and Captain Starkey in1876 moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, continuing in the shoe business.
