The early history of Western Virginia, if well writ-ten, would constitute a chapter filled with the details of , sufferings, and massacres of the first few events, however, of general interest at this time,occurred in this section of our country. Logan, thefamous Mingo chief, lived near the mouth of the KanawhaRiver. The story of his calamities, as well as a specimenof his simple but affecting eloquence, is well known. 6. A mile and a half below Parkersburg, at the mouthof the Little Kanawha, is the celebrated island which wasformerly the residence of Mr. Blennerhasset. The beautyand charms of this delightful spot, like the once cheeringprospects of its former proprietor, have long since OHIO. 139 CHAPTER XIII. OHIO.
