ALCOI, SPAIN: Women dressed as belly-dancers. THE FLAMBOYANT festival that relives Christians conquering Muslims in Spain has been captured this weekend. From armoured knights of the cross and fearsome eastern assassins to swordswomen and exotic-looking belly dancers, pictures show how the centuries-old festival still attracts thousands of enthusiastic revellers. Participants dressed in elaborate costumes in the Spanish town of Alcoi for the “Moros y Cristianos” festival, which recalls the 15th Century reconquest of the country by Christian armies from the Islamic Kingdom of Granada.
