DIEGO (Sept. 14, 2018) Chief Aviation Ordnanceman William Mickelson, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), receives his cover during a chief pinning ceremony at the Naval Base San Diego chapel. Eight Sailors were promoted to chief petty officer during the ceremony. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
