A Mersey rail train travelling from Liverpool to Southport crosses the Leeds and Liverpool canal near the Caroline Street footbridge in Bootle.

508 112 crossing L and L at Caroline Street Bootle A Mersey rail train crosses the Leeds and Liverpool canal near the Caroline Street footbridge in Bootle, Merseyside. The train it is working is the Liverpool South Parkway to Southport, headcode 2S15. The railway crosses the canal here between Bootle Oriel Road and Bootle New Strand stations. The water level in the canal here on this day was very low, as the canal had suffered a breach further along in Melling, so it has become unnavigable. The breach is being repaired but could take until the end of August to repair. Friday Image Cw 6285 copyright Colin Wareing of Colin and Carole’s Creations
