To show their exceptionally large size, three bright orange seeds dispersed from a rare and beautiful tropical Cycad plant are shown in a woman's hand. Cycads have been called "living fossils" because they have existed for more 200 million years -- even before dinosaurs roamed the earth. Once abundant across the globe, only about 250 cycad species exist today. This variety surrounds and protects its reproductive cone of seeds with barbed evergreen leaves.
