On September 16th, 1933 the first testing services of the 198-meter high water Karakumovsky Bridge took place. The bridge is named after the historical motor race “Moscow-Karakumy-Moscow”. 16 сентября 1933 года в Ельце состоялись первые испытания высоководного Каракумского моста длиной 198 метров. А чуть позже по нему прошли автомобили исторического автопробега Москва — Каракумы — Москва. Мост решили назвать Каракумским в честь этого автопробега.
