North River steamboat replica. Here named the 'Clermont' but also known as the 'North River Steamboat' (of Clermont), this was among the earliest commercially successful steamboats. The original was launched in 1807 on the Hudson River (then called the North River) between New York City and Albany, USA. It was designed by US engineer Robert Fulton, and funded by US politician Robert R. Livingston. The success of this steamboat led to numerous others being launched. This replica was built for the Hudson-Fulton centenary celebrations of 1909. After a brief period as a museum, the replica was dismantled in the 1930s.
