Painted cliffs, a patterned, seaside, rock formation on Maria Island, Tasmania, Australia

The Painted Cliffs at Maria Island are reached after a ferry ride to the island and then a 30 minute hike from the Darlington settlement. They are best viewed at low tide as access to the rock platform is not possible at high tide. Hundreds of years of water percolating through the sandstone has resulted in swirling, patterned erosion that is geologically unique.
