I made this trip on horseback, found my sisters home,and found them getting along all right. In 1887 I came into Custer county, locating permanently, and leased theranch where I now live, which I afterwards bought from my uncle, H. It consists of acres of deeded land and a lease of 640 acres ofschool land, located on the South Loup river in Loup township. In 1893 we sold out the store and engaj?ed in ranehino exclu-sively. We have added to the place until it comprises over 40U0 acres otdeeded land and one school section of leased land. We have over forty milesof fence and our live stock at this time consists of three hundred cattle, twohundred and fifty hogs and seventy-five horses, with wagons, buggies,tools and farm machinery sutficient to carry on the place. W(^ have theBaptist church on the east, the Presbyterian on the west, the Christian on thenorth and the Methodist on the south. Our schools are laid out about threemiles apart, which places all the pupils within easy access to them. Among the old settlers of Loup township who might be mentioned aslandmarks are D. and J. M. Downey, Will P. Trew, Lon Davis, Nc. Morgan, Diah Woodruff, Phil. Campbell, J. E. Mye
