Kyrgyzstan is a Central Asian state bordering China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan it became independent with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 the Tian Shan mountain range lies in the country in the border region of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of western China. In the south it links up with the Pamir Mountains and to north and east it meets the Altai Mountains of Mongolia This photograph shows A MI-8 Military helicopter approaching base camp on the south Inylchek glacier in the high Tian Shen mountains of Kyrgyzstan as it prepares to remove a group of climbers. Running between the north face of the mountain of Kan Tengri and the south face of the mountain of Pobeda this the 5th longest glacier in the world and is surrounded by the high snow covered mountains of one of the most remote mountain ranges in central Asia
