A magnificent German bone-inlaid wheellock rifle probably Saxon, circa 1680. Two-stage smooth bore barrel in 16 mm calibre, octagonal then round after a girdle. Brass front sight with dovetailed, iron rear sight. Slightly engraved and chiselled wheellock with brass wheel cover (the spur of the cock with an old repair). The dark wooden full stock is elaborately inlaid with finely engraved and blackened bone depicting animals, figures and hunting scenes.
