A plaque next to the Hob & Plage Stones reads:..... Hob Stone The effigy of a knight of the Roos family, sculpted in about 1315. Placed here in 1717, the inscription on the back read: "This Image LongHob's name has bore Who was a Knight in time of yore and gave this Common to ye Poor. Plague Stone Palgue victims housed on Hob Moor in 1604, paid for food brought to them by placing money in water or vinegar in the central depression
