Lt. Col. Bob Abell, a retired squadron commander from the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Airlift Wing, salutes the grave of Chief Master Sgt. Tommy Downs after placing a wreath at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Ky., Dec. 13, 2018. Downs died unexpectedly while serving as wing command chief in 2009. The wreath is part of a project to honor nearly 200 fallen Kentucky Air Guardsmen with memorials every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
