Angle view from Ivan Square on the world’s biggest Tsar Cannon after snowfall at the beginning of spring. The 40-ton barrel of the cannon was cast of high quality bronze in 1586 at Moscow’s Cannon Court by Andrei Chokhov. Judging by the type of its gun tube, the Czar cannon is a mortar with the length of the barrel of 5,34 meters, and caliber of 890 mm. The cannon’s surface is lavishly adorned with the vegetation ornament and inscriptions. Not a single shot was made from it. It is fixed on the carriage adorned with a lion head and magnificent cast ornaments cast in 1835 in St. Petersburg by project of architect A. Bryullov. Four cast-iron cannonballs weighting 1 one ton each laid in front of its base.
