Northern England’s highest narrow gauge railway at Alston, Cumbria runs steam and diesel trains on a short section section of the former Haltwhistle to Alston branch line Trains are run on a seasonal basis on a short stretch of line between Alston and Kirkhaugh. The narrow gauge railway was constructed by enthusiasts several years after after the branch line was closed in the 1970's. The first narrow gauge services were run in July 1983.
