For inland navigation, the bottom should be flat and long, whilethe sides may be straight. For the purpose of coasting, the bottom should rise a little, and thesides be somewhat round ; for, although the roundness of the sidesbe of small importance, with a view to STIFFNESS, yet it will,in certain situations, give strength to resist the repeated beating oft
