A textbook of obstetrics . luid upon the externalgenitals. I have attended in confinement two married womenwith unruptured hymens, and on one occasion examined a young, unmarried girl with a perfectly intact, though delicate hymen, who had been impregnated, during an embrace by her lover in theerect posture, from the deposition of semen upon the labiamajora. The Meeting Place of Ovule and Spermatic Particle.—Itis generally assumed that the spermatozoa meet the ovule in theampulla of the tube. That this may be the meeting place isproved by eases of tubal pregnane)-. There are strong argu-ments, however, in favor of the fundus uteri as the normalmeeting place of spermatic particle and ovule. If ovulationoccurs at the height of menstrual congestion, the ovule hasprobably reached the uterine cavity before the fruitful coitusoccurs. Hyrtl 1 found the ovule in the uterine extremity of thetube in a girl who had died on the fourth day of menstruation. 1 MUllers I landbuch, vol. i, p. 151. PLATE i. Outer celts Polar Outer cells.
