Latgest of the courser family, the Violet-tipped Courser often arrives in an aread after a bushfire. The underwing has a distinctive iridescence on the underwing primary feather tips that is only visible in flight. Scientists now believe that as birds have vision in the ultra-violet spectrum this will act as a beacon and 'follow-me' signal as they fly around in the dark.
