Skin cancer. Image 1 of 3. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the head of an 84-year-old man. This cancerous growth, or rodent ulcer, is the most common form of skin cancer among fair-skinned people, mostly affecting the elderly. It usually appears on the face and is thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Although it slowly destroys surrounding tissues, it rarely spreads to other parts of the body.
