Queen Victoria Clock tower next to a betel nut sculpture at Penang, Malaysia
Built in 1897 by a Penang Chinese tycoon - Cheah Chen Eok to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria's reign, he spent 35,000 Straits dollars to complete this clock tower in 1902. Of the Moorish style architecture, this clock tower posses four tiers with the base tier designed in an octagonal shape. The next two tiers comprise four distinct faces and decorated with windows, balconies and four working clocks. The top tier is rounded off with roman pillars and rooted with domed cupola. Recently, a metal betel nut sculpture (called as 'buah pinang' in Malaysian Language) was erected right in the middle of the roundabout next the this iconic clock tower.
