Hans Sachs (1494-1576) was a leading poet at the German school at Nuremberg. The German artist Andreas Herneyssen lived in Nuremberg. He painted this piece, showing himself doing a portrait of Hans Sach (left), sitting at a writing desk with his cat. The text has lines from Sachs's poetry. Sachs is also spelled Sach.
