Appledore (House) hotel and cottages, Isles of Shoals, Maine, c1901. Appledore House was built in 1847 by Thomas Laighton and Levi Thaxter. It became a busy resort, and in 1905 hosted delegates for the Russo-Japanese Peace Treaty discussions in Portsmouth.
