For full story paste this link into your browser: With the rutting season about to start, stags will soon be showing off their antlers and fighting to win the heart of their chosen doe. But once the rut is over, their antlers are naturally shed to allow new ones to grow. From December each year an army of people across Britain and Europe are mobilised to harvest valuable antler from parks and moorland. They are often fashioned into walking sticks, made into furniture or used in Chinese medicine. But hundreds of thousands of deer antlers are now being turned into tasty dogs chews. Last month a ÔstagÕgering eight tons of antlers were prepared and dispatched from a warehouse in Southampton to pet shops across the country, keeping up with the growing demand for the latest pooch chews. ÒWe recently had an order for thirty thousand bars from Pets at Home C theyÕre in all their stores nowÓ, said Glenn Campbell (40) who runs Pure Dog with his wife Deborah (39).
