SALISBURY, Matilda Jane Gibbs, wife of Bishop Joseph Hoskin Salis-bury, was born at Willard, Box ElderCo., Utah, Dec. 16, 1863, daughter ofPatriarch John Duggan Gibbs andJulia Ann Thompson, both early Utahpioneers. Sister Salisbury was of amost refined nature and spent her life BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA 765 in the service of the Church and indoing good among her f ellowmen. Withthe exception of seven years, whenshe resided at Imbler, Oregon, whereher husband presided as Bishop of the. Imbler Ward, her whole life was spentin Utah. Sister Salisbury began herChurch activities in the Portage Wardprior to her marriage in the LoganTemple, Jan. 1, 1885. She subsequent-ly became an officer in the WellsvilleM. I. A.; president of the Imbler WardRelief Society; an officer in the Logan2nd Ward Y. W. M. I. A., and presi-dent of the Logan 5th Ward Y. I. A. While residing in Salt LakeCity she was active in the Mill Creek,Forest Dale and 20th Wards ReliefSocieties, giving of her sound judg-ment and mature wisdom. With herhusband and family she celebrated hergolden wedding anniversary on , 1935. She was also an active offi-cer of the Daughters of the Utah Pio-neers organization. Exemplifying thewords, God could not be everywhere,so He sent mothers, she became thehonored mother of six children, name-ly, Joseph
