I am always careful in answering such ques-tions as the above to give a practical answer,and one which may not be misleading. It isquite possible that in a flock of 500 pairs ofbreeding Homers, where all the squabs aresaved for breeding, a pair of youngstersmight mate at four months ot age; it is alsoprobable that in the same flock a few pairsmight mate at six months, but these earlymatings would be so few and exceptional asto be of scarcely any practical benefit. Fromthe age of six months there would be con-stantly increasing numbers of matings
