The lines were originally laid by. the city and have been leased to the tramway companyon conditions which provided for the payment of interest (^mccty\aiWa^9^V^^ 395 on the investment and the renewal of the track at certainperiods. When the city took control, it furnished its ownrolling stock and horse flesh throughout, leaving the oldequipment on the companys hands. The company hasbeen preparing for the change for some time so that theloss will not be as great as it otherwise would. Thecompany has already an extensive express and bus ser-vice in the city, and the bus service will be still moreenlarged so as to seriously compete with the tram is paying a dividend of five per cent.
