Body with yellow to orange subintegumental pigment. Head not elongate or bulged (Fig. 136). Interocellar setae strongly de- veloped. Antennal segments V and VI broadly joined. Prothorax with a few dorsal setae, with only two pairs of posterior setae between the major epimeral setae. Fore tarsi without teeth. Fore wings normally with only two distal setae on fore vein. Abdominal sternites without acces- sory setae in addition to posterior ones. Abdominal tergite VIII with posterior comb complete. Almost en- tirely yellow to light yellow brown, except antennae which are colored as in female. Similar to female in structure. Ab- dominal tergite VIII with a complete posterior comb. Abdominal sternal glandular areas apparently not present. Similar to the European species, salicis (Renter), betulae seemingly oc- curs on both Salix and Betula. Ac- cording to Hood (1927c), J. J. Davis and C. A. Hart first collected it in Illi- nois in 1908, at which time it was as- signed the name salicis. Illinois records.
