Theropod dinosaur (left) tracking a sauropod dinosaur (right), illustration. Theropods were bipedal dinosaurs that were initially carnivorous, but later evolved different feeding adaptations. They evolved during the Late Triassic, existing from 231 million years ago, with most going extinct 65 million years ago. Sauropods were long-necked herbivorous dinosaurs, among the largest that ever lived. They existed from 210 to 66 million years ago. Under the right conditions, sauropods were preyed upon by theropods. This scene is based on fossil tracks found at Glen Rose, Texas, USA, dating from the Late Jurassic. The fossil tracks were discovered by Roland T. Bird in 1938.
