A European battle axe, 17th century "Streitaxt" with a WW I dedication. Iron head is 15 cm across with 5 cm cutting edge and cm squared stippled hammer end. Dark hardwood shaft measures 60 cm (may have been cut down) and has two copper brackets under head, one dated "1917". Deeply impressed into blade is an early Hungarian coat-of-arms. Etched on obverse blade is " 1915 A. D Ikna". The reverse is etched " Lt. Ing Mödling 20 4 1917".
