Bins of records at the grand opening of The Crate record store in Bushwick in New York on Record Store Day, Saturday, April 19, On Record Store Day, now in its eighth year, music lovers are encouraged to support their local non-chain record stores. The Crate was selling all their used records, out of crates hence their name, for one dollar. The store also sells laser cut jewelry made out of recycled vinyl records. Sales of CDs and downloads shrank last year, as shipments of vinyl LPs shot up 32%.
